Florals for a Contemporary Spring Wedding at Greentrees Estate: Seasonal Florals in a Luxury Sussex Venue
Back in June, the Made with Grace team brought seasonal soft florals and foliages to the beautiful Greentrees Estate - a luxury venue nestled in the Sussex countryside that MWG is proud to be a recommended supplier for, for the wedding of G & J.
This couple wished for a contemporary floral approach that celebrated the season, incorporated lots of greenery, and created striking backdrops and styling moments within the landscape of their day. Together we refined an artistic direction that created focal framing and interest throughout the event and complemented the venues surrounding gardens and the wider styling elements of the day.
In this feature we are sharing the stunning professional photography by Matt Tyler some behind the scenes moments from the studio and at Greentrees Estate and further details about the floral design concepts that led to the flower backdrops of the day.
Floral Design Concepts- Inspired by the season, celebration of British Flowers and considered styling details
The floral concept evolved during our time together, and often, with couples commonly booking 1-1.5years out from the wedding, the palette wishes can adjust. G & J initially felt drawn to a green and white focus, but we ended up arriving at a more seasonally reflective one with soft tones of lilac, blue, pale pinks, creams and yellow, along with varied greens and whites too.
The relaxed, garden inspired design style of the floral creations was intentional to harmonise to the lush surrounding gardens and rolling landscape of the Sussex countryside and bring a sense of natural, botanical warmth inside. We incorporated lots of variety and texture to bring depth, movement and intrigue to each design.
Sustainability and celebrating British seasonal ingredients, as always here at MWG was a core basis of the designs, with everything created with sustainable foam free mechanics and as many of the stems as possible sourced from the wonderful community of flower growers in Surrey and Sussex. Being June, a great time for British flowers and foliage, varieties including beautifully scented stocks and sweet peas, petite leafed, whimsy birch branches and wild meadow flower varieties were able to be incorporated.
The Ceremony - with a statement floral installation framing the windows of The Grand Oak Barn.
Greentrees Estate is an absolutely beautiful venue, with vast spaces, architectural details and floodings of natural light. Typically indoor ceremonies are held in front of the huge windows that look out onto the walled garden and the structure of these with a high ledge presents the opportunity to create impactful framing of this focal area with florals. We opted for an asymmetric structure of the design for a more contemporary feel and a sense of sprawling softness contrasting the wood and glass to the leaves and blooms. The large installation, made bespoke to the space was able to provide beautiful backdrops to all the iconic moments of the day in the moment and in the photographs that live on beyond.
The Reception - with abundant textural floral centrepieces in handmade stone bowls
For the dining, our MWG bespoke handmade stone bowls were used, filled with all sorts of blooms, delicate greenery and grasses, bringing intrigue, colour and fragrance to the tables. These complemented the neutral linens and feature green glassware. Erin of Birch House Bakery created the most beautiful wedding cake which was being served as desert and MWG supplied complementing blooms to give a striking floral finish the design and further harmonising the styling elements of the day.

What did the couple say?
G & J kindly send a thank you card in the post - (the very best kind of post!) which read -
'“Dear Grace,
I don’t think there are enough words to express how happy your flowers made me. My bouquet was better than anything I imagined and as you know it brought me to tears when I had managed not to cry all morning! I keep looking at the pictures and won’t stop talking about it for a long time.
The arrangement in the main room was also incredible and you really brought our vision to life! You really have a unique style which is truly beautiful and all the guests kept complimenting the flowers throughout the day.
You were such a joy to work with and we wish you so much success with your own business! We will definitely be recommending you to all of our friends.
Best wishes
G & J xxx
