Exploring a mellow yellow soft spring wedding colour palette and contemporary table styling
The Concept
The beauty and change of the seasons and nature’s way has always had an influence over my work and is often where I first turn when creating floral concepts and colour palettes. Given it was early March and is a time when daffodils start decorating the landscape, the sun starts to hold more warmth and the evenings get that little bit longer, venturing into yellow, which is often associated with spring felt fitting.
For the overall concept I wanted to reflect the essence of Spring's arrival, celebrating bulbs and seasonal blooms and a gentle colour palette that gave warmth and freshness. I wanted the design to feel contemporary and immersive, making the beholder's eyes travel the scene before them and explore the variety of shapes, textures and fragrance within it. The designs were intended for a banquet dining table so I created a series of individual floral moments that combined to form a relaxed runner through the centre of the space, allowing the necessary room for further place setting details and where someone would sit. A grounded meadow design was created at the end of the table to bring further interest and visual immersion.
Floral Ingredients
The variety of floral ingredients were carefully selected to offer different tones, height and interest and I wanted to incorporate some of the very fleeting and luxury offerings that are only with us for a short time such as fritillaria and poppies. Petite narcissi, muscari, hellebores and butterfly ranunculus further formed the mix and statement height and shape was provided by stems of dill. I felt inspired by the way clusters of bulbs pop up from pots and the ground and so incorporated moss into the base of the designs to give the illusion of a vessel grown arrangement.
Floral Designs and Styling
I am passionate about sustainable mechanics in floristry - the term for the techniques and tools that physically support or provide the foundation for arrangements and I always create without floral foam, due to its negative environmental impact. Therefore I opted for reusable options including pin frogs and chicken wire within water to provide support and hydration for the living stems which were then carefully concealed. The vessels themselves were from my collection of handmade stoneware that I have had lovingly made by artisan ceramicists.
It was lovely to collaborate with some fellow wedding suppliers to further enhance the styling of the setting. The House of Styling provided relaxed fabric runners and candles within vintage holders that softened the table and provided further romance and ambience. Silk ribbons were tied in bows upon the antique candle holders bringing additional texture into the scene and adding a little feminine charm. Kalm kitchen provided the place setting including sophisticated gold cutlery, draped linen napkins and feature glassware.
I hope this piece gave you a little glimpse into the creative processes and leaves you inspired. To see more video from this event and some behind the scenes from the studio have a look over on instagram here.
